1. Power-hungry apps
First thing’s first. We need to learn the behavior of our battery to locate the problem and subsequently to find a solution. To get a better understanding of what makes your battery tick, go to Settings > Battery. If you find apps on this screen that are using up a lot of battery then, think about whether you really need them. You could save battery life by removing the ones you don’t depend on. Check out this AVG report on the apps that drain the most battery – you may be running several of these on your phone.

2. Replace your old battery with a new one
If your smartphone is a couple of years old or more, the sad truth is that its battery might be simply dying a natural death. If you don’t have a lot of background processes running and are keeping your screen brightness down, then it’s worth reading our review of your phone, and comparing our battery experience to yours.
If yours is considerably lower, it might be time for a change. Manufacturers often say that a battery should perform well for up to 1000 charges, but that depends on many factors.

If you have a smartphone with removable battery, it’s simply a case of buying a new one (a major advantage to choosing a smartphone with removable battery). 3. Your charger does not work 
If after a full night’s charging, you notice that your smartphone battery drains super-fast, then it’s worth checking first thing in the morning whether it actually fully charges. If not, then you’re looking at a defective charger.
Check whether your cable works with another phone, or conversely whether your phone works with another cable. If your charger proves to be faulty, remember to only buy chargers from reputable manufacturers, otherwise you risk becoming the subject of those all-too-frequent news stories about phones setting houses and people on fire. 4. ‘Android system’ using too much battery
One of the biggest battery consumers on your phone is the ‘Android system’ service. This keeps your whole device running smoothly, so naturally uses a lot of battery, but it shouldn’t be more than 25 percent. If it’s using more than this, then you could have a problem.
This problem could be resolved by downgrading your Android device to an older Android version. We’ve got plenty of downgrade guides on AndroidPIT, so just search “downgrade [your phone name]” on AndroidPIT Should this fail, then you may have to factory reset your device. Drastic though this may sound, it could ultimately be a simpler solution than downgrading your device, because to do that you need to flash it, which can lead to complications.

5. Google Play Services battery drain
Google Play Services is another service that consumes a lot of battery. Unfortunately, you can’t stop it because it’s a crucial Android feature which lets your apps communicate with each other on your phone. Still, you can bring it under control.
Go to Settings > Applications > All > Google Play Services. Here, tap the Clear cache button. This should refresh Google Play Service and stop it draining your battery. Repeat this process once a month.

6. Switch off auto-brightness
Don’t act all innocent. The law states you should never use automatic brightness, but you’ve been abusing it behind closed doors. Though automatic brightness is usually sophisticated enough to produce a comfortable viewing setting for each individual, it is not capable of selecting the optimal setting. How could it? Smartphone sensors don’t know the strength of your and your great aunt’s eyesight, do they?
Setting the brightness level yourself will invariably provide better battery life, so long as you set it to a comparatively low value. Fortunately, the Android platform makes it very easy to adjust brightness settings, and it can easily be adjusted from the quick-settings menu with a two-fingered downward swipe.

7. Shorten your screen timeout
It’s a well-known fact that the display is one of the biggest sources of battery drain on an Android phone, so managing it is crucial to its longevity. The “screen-timeout” or “sleep” setting determines how long your display will stay awake for after it has been engaged with; if your screen remains on while you aren’t looking at it, it’s wasting precious battery life. Best to set it to the lowest value you are comfortable with in regular use, and only change it when you need to. 
Don’t to worry about apps which require the screen to be on permanently while in use, like games or eBook readers, they know to stay awake no matter what your setting is.

8. Watch out for widgets and background apps
Widgets are stone cold battery killers, mercilessly updating in the background while you go about your business. You might be under the impression that a simple news ticker and weather app won’t do much harm, but you’d be wrong, and once you start adding more and more, it will seriously take your battery to task. 
Consider the frequency with which you want your widgets and background apps to update. You could potentially set your weather app to update every hour, but the more frequently it updates, the more power it requires. If you only check your weather twice per day, try setting the refresh interval to every 12 hours instead.
Many apps will prompt you to set up the update frequency when you first place them on your homepage, though you can return to their settings at any time to alter them. Just be aware that some apps don’t offer this at all, and these may be real battery assassins to watch out for.

Apple could launch a bigger iPhone X Plus next year, report says

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote a new report about Apple’s plans for next year. According to him, the company is going to release three new iPhone devices next year. They’ll all have edge-to-edge displays with a notch.
The successor of the iPhone X could be roughly the same size and shape. According to Kuo, this new iPhone would feature a 5.8-inch display with a density of 458 pixels per inch. This is exactly the same specifications as the current display in the iPhone X.
But if a 5.8-inch display is not enough, KGI Securities thinks there will be a bigger phone with a 6.5-inch display. It’ll also be an OLED display with a pixel density of 480-500 pixels per inch. In other words, there might be a second-gen iPhone X Plus.
That’s not all. Apple doesn’t plan to focus on high-end phones that cost $1,000 or more. The company is also going to release a successor to the iPhone 8. But Apple plans to bring some of the innovations in the iPhone X to this new device.
This lower-end iPhone (but still very expensive) could cost between $649 and $749 and feature an edge-to-edge display with a notch. But there will be tradeoffs. For instance, you can expect a traditional LCD display with a lower resolution (roughly 320 to 330 pixels per inch).
It could have a 6.1-inch display, which would make it slightly bigger than the iPhone X. And it could have all the sensors for Face ID and face tracking.
Apple works on new phones years before unveiling them. But, as always, this report might not be perfectly accurate. We’ll learn more about Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup in the coming months.

The next generation of HomePods could have Face ID

The first generation of HomePods, Apple’s intelligent speaker, isn’t shipping until December, but according to a report by Nikkei, Apple supplier Inventec Appliances is already making projections that future models might have facial and image recognition.
David Ho, the president of the Taiwanese company, recently told reporters, “We see trends that engineers are designing smart speakers that will not only come with voice recognition but also incorporate features such as facial and image recognition,” and that “such AI-related features are set to make people’s lives more convenient and to make the product easier to use.”
Although the HomePod was not specifically mentioned in Ho’s comments, it’s obvious that was the product he was referencing. When rumors about the HomePod started circulating last year, facial recognition was among one of the features Apple was supposedly considering. If integrated into HomePod, the unit could theoretically perform automatic adjustments to a room, depending on who it senses is present.
It’s not completely unlikely that future versions of the HomePod will have Face ID, given that Apple is rolling out the tech to iPads in 2018. The system, introduced on the iPhone X, uses a dot projector that maps a face using up to 30,000 points, allowing users to unlock their phones, make payments, and yes, send Animoji.

Brett Hundley proved the Packers aren’t cooked just yet

It was only a win over the Bears, but Hundley made some clutch throws to bring Green Bay back into the playoff hunt.
Brett Hundley ran off the turf at Soldier Field Sunday and beelined to one man. In one whirling motion, he hugged Aaron Rodgers so hard it looked like it might crack the former MVP’s already-dodgy collarbone.
Rodgers laughed it off. Hundley deserved his props — the derided Packers backup is the reason why Green Bay escaped a Week 10 showdown in Chicago with a win.
Injuries to top tailbacks Aaron Jones (knee) and Ty Montgomery (ribs) forced the Packers’ hand, pressing Hundley — a quarterback whose first two NFL starts relied heavily on short passes and checkdowns — into a more aggressive mindset. The third-year veteran responded with the best performance of his career.

In the fourth quarter, Hundley stepped into a pair of big plays that helped shut the door on the Bears’ comeback chances. The first was a second-and-9 laser to Davante Adams, tossed with precision into a window where only the Packers wideout could grab it. Adams snatched the ball and darted past the pylon for a 19-yard touchdown — the second of Hundley’s career.

One drive later, with the Bears trailing by seven points, the young passer took the biggest risk of his afternoon on third-and-10 with the two-minute warning approaching. His deep ball spiraled softly into the hands of Adams, who was pushed out of bounds after a 42-yard gain. Only a botched Mason Crosby field goal prevented the team from icing the game then and there.
“I trust Davante,” Hundley said after the game. “He’s a heck of a playmaker. That’s what you call a trust throw. Get it up there and let him make a play, and he did what he does best.”
Hundley delivered when the Packers needed him most
It was a remarkable turnaround for a player who has struggled with his new starring role in the Green Bay offense. In two starts and three games since Rodgers’ injury, Hundley had yet to lead the Packers to a win. He averaged a meager 5 yards per throw and had only one touchdown to four interceptions. His quarterback rating was 58.3.
Things didn’t look much different early against the Bears. Hundley’s game got off to a rough start as the Packers decided to challenge Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller early and often, with limited success. While he completed the bulk of his passes, a risk-averse game plan limited Hundley to just 86 passing yards in the first half.
Then, fate intervened. The dynamic rushing duo of Jones and Montgomery was relegated to the sideline, forcing the impetus on Hundley’s arm. While rookie third-string tailback Jamaal Williams performed well in relief duty, it was the quarterback’s ability to extend drives that allowed his team to grind Chicago down to a fine paste. In the second half, Green Bay converted five of its eight third-down situations in which Hundley dropped back to pass.
The difference in demeanor was clear. Hundley played with more urgency and confidence Sunday, bringing back some of the preseason swagger that raised his stock the past three Augusts. He showed off his mobility with a 17-yard scamper on third-and-2 that set up the Adams touchdown pass. His fourth quarter was, statistically, the best 15 minutes of quarterbacking the Packers had seen all season.

But there’s still plenty of room for improvement
There were flaws, too. A wasted timeout on one of the most obvious hard counts in NFL history as the first quarter wound down. A delay of game penalty directly before his third down bomb to Adams late in the fourth quarter while the Bears were still threatening. He’s struggled to find ways to connect with top wideout Jordy Nelson.
Green Bay — and Hundley — still have a ways to go. Beating the Bears isn’t exactly the kind of marquee win that will strike fear in the hearts of NFC North rivals. But Chicago had held opposing quarterbacks to an average 88.7 rating up until Sunday, and Hundley walked off the field with a 110.8 and an efficient 8.5 yards per pass average.
“We just have to keep this momentum going,” Hundley told reporters after his first win as a starter. “We have to ride the wave. I think it gives us a boost of confidence for sure, especially getting the first one under us, but every week is a new week.”
That’s a step in the right direction — and exactly what the franchise needed to see after losing both its effective tailbacks. Hundley responded to the challenge, making the kind of throws that can push the Packers back to the playoffs. Now he’ll have to do it against a better team than the 3-6 Bears to prove he’s for real.
That seemed like a long shot after Week 9, but Hundley’s perfect fourth quarter and the veteran accuracy he displayed connecting with Adams suggest it might not be such a bad bet after all.
